Lambrusco Vecchia Modena
We did a tour and tasting at one of the largest lambrusco producers in Emilia Romagna, Cleto Chiarli in Modena, Italy. We tasted 6 different lambruscos of various styles and qualities. Lambrusco is something that is drank commonly in these parts and during our time in Italy we took the local custom and it became our aperitif before dinner. Needless to say, cases were consumed during the month.
It could be the thousands of years of tradition or perhaps the versatility of each varietal which go into every bottle of Lambrusco that has made a special place for Lambrusco in our palettes. Clear, crisp, and bubbly like champagne, frizzante deep red, and dry; or almost still, sweet, and a red that is quickly approaching purple are some of the characteristics which makes Lambrusco a must drink in Reggio Romagna. Every color in the wine spectrum will dance on your taste buds, and every bottle will keep your wallet happy and full. (You can get a good one for about $5USD.)
