Bordeaux Beyond the Wine
The Pulse of Place de la Victoire
Be it morning, noon, or night, Place de la Victoire has a constant vibe that blends laid back cafe culture with the energetic carousing of student nightlife. The striking square Is home to Porte d’Aquitaine, an imposing Romanesque gateway that literally directs you outward towards the rest of the Aquitaine district and beyond. Victoire is constantly in flux with people coming and going. The trolleys lumber through the center, students heading to class, laughs and cheers from the outdoor cafes as the tv’s show the latest futbol matches. Place de la Victoire is both timeless and ever changing.
Marché des Capucins
In Bordeaux, you don’t have to wait in quiet anticipation for the bounty and splendors of Farmers’ Market. Six days out of the week local farmers, butchers, cheese shops, florists, fishmongers, and other traders turn Marche des Capucins into the place to be from 6am to 2pm. This is the local hangout for both that morning cafe, or that glass of rioja with tapas at noon.
Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux
There is nothing quite like watching a futbol match in France, and Bordeaux being one of the most successful clubs out there is clearly no exception. Be prepared for beer priced the way it should be, France’s take on an American hot dog, and of course the legendary songs of a stadium filled with supporters. Whether you love the game of soccer or not, it is highly entertaining to watch the match in person, and just as captivating to marvel at a stadium of dedicated fans singing in unison. Allez Bordeaux!
Le Mirroir d’eau
The largest reflecting pool in the world bubbles to life in 3 minutes cycles for filling, 15 minutes of actual mirror, followed by draining for 5 minutes and of course the 3 minute fog effect. The visuals created against the charcoal gray slate bottom varies from a blurred chromatic hue to a crisp reflection of all the beauty of Place de la Bourse. In case you miss one of the ever different visual effects, you’ll just have to wade for it to come again.
